Invisalign

Invisalign is one method of orthodontic treatment that can straighten your smile through a series of invisible, removable and comfortable aligners that virtually no one can tell you are wearing. Invisalign trays are removable for cleaning and changing to a new set as your teeth move and straighten over time. As an added bonus, Invisalign trays can also be used with at-home and overnight teeth-whitening systems.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign® is an alternative treatment method to straighten teeth using a custom-made series of aligners that are created and fitted specifically for you. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and nearly invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements your dentist or orthodontist plans out for you. There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten. A new set of aligners is made every two weeks or so, and you’ll pick them up and have a regular visit with your orthodontist.

What is Invisalign Teen?

Invisalign Teen® works like standard Invisalign treatment using a series of custom-made aligners, with the understanding that as teenagers our teeth may respond differently and in some cases more quickly to treatment. Invisalign Teen can be a welcome alternative to traditional braces treatment. Some teens prefer Invisalign Teen® treatment because it can be removed as needed for eating, athletics and other events, and because it is virtually invisible to others.

Types of Cases Invisalign Can Correct

Invisalign® may be a treatment option to correct mild cases of the following:

  • Overcrowding – when a lack of room in the jaw cause teeth to shift and overlap each other.

  • Gapped Teeth – mild gaps between teeth can be a result of jaw development, or due to shifting following the loss of one or more teeth.

  • Overbite – when the top teeth bite, or jet over the lower teeth.

  • Underbite – when the bottom teeth bite over the upper teeth.

  • Crossbite – when the upper and lower jaws do not line up properly.

  • Open bite – when opposing teeth cannot make contact with each other.

What are the steps involved in Invisalign and Invisalign Teen Treatment?

The Invisalign® treatment process consists of a customized treatment plan, made only for you, by your Fresh Smiles Advanced Orthodontics and Dental Care Clinic Family Dental orthodontist or qualified dentist. At your kickoff visit, your dental professional will take pictures, x-rays and impressions of your teeth, which will include before photos, to track your progress and transformation throughout your treatment.

A set of custom aligners will be created for you at Invisialign’s laboratory. When you return to the office you will receive the aligners, to ensure they fit properly. The aligners are made of BPA-free plastic. Invisalign trays are removable, but it is recommended to wear them for 20-22 hours per day for optimal results, removing them to brush and floss your teeth twice daily.

You will need to return to the office for a new set of aligners every two to six weeks, depending on the phase of treatment you are in, and how the movement of your teeth is progressing. The length of your treatment will depend on a variety of factors, including the type of correction needed, how quickly your teeth are moving, and if you are wearing your aligners as often as recommended.

Once your treatment is complete, you will receive the all-clear from your orthodontist or qualified dentist. We’ll take a set of after photos for you, and you’ll get to admire your beautiful new smile! If needed a set of retainers will be made for you to ensure your hard work and beautiful results will last for life!
